Buried in Queen Road Cemetery E17, Birt Acres (1854 - 1918), a one-time East End resident, is widely believed to have been the first person to have successfully made and shot a film in Britain.

Now, artist Dominic Stinton is inviting you to be a 'Maker Like Acres'.

Join 'Birt' and his troupe of actors in an immersive day-long workshop where you'll be shown how to make your very own silent movie! At the end of the day, participants will have shot and directed their own silent film under the conditions of the first films ever made.

All of the participants' films will be shown to an audience in a public screening with live music - much like Birt Acres's own films of 126 years ago.

Due to the intensive nature of this workshop, it is limited to 12 places only. Advance booking is essential to avoid disappointment. Please check back this page soon for details on how to register.

Workshop timings
12:00-14:00 (Library Hall)
14:00-17:00 (Filming in St John’s Church Yard, please wear comfortable clothing and shoes)

This workshop is produced by Dominic Stinton

*Please note as this is a free ticketed event, we expect that some ticket holders may not attend. Due to this we will be welcoming walk ins at the beginning of each event. We encourage you to arrive at the start of the event even if an event states it is sold out.
